SIBT provides a range of study options to suit students’ individual English language needs. SIBT will advise the most appropriate study option based on previous English results and Australian Government requirements.

This program is designed for students who have an IELTS score of 5.0 (or equivalent). It allows students to improve their English language ability while studying select academic units at SIBT. During the first semester students study 15 hours of English per week and two academic units. Additional language support (four hours per week) continues to be provided for students during the 2nd and 3rd semesters. Because of visa regulations, students from Visa AL3 and AL4 countries are not eligible for the Mixed English Option.

Students who require full-time English study prior to commencing their studies at SIBT have the following options:

Learn English at Macquarie University

The Centre for Macquarie English (CME), formerly NCELTR, is recognised internationally as providing high quality English programs that develop the skills students need in their academic program. Conveniently located in the SIBT building, CME offers the Study Skills English program, an academic English program specifically  designed for direct entry to SIBT. Students are recommended between 5 - 40 weeks of tuition depending on their English langauge needs. For further details about courses at CME refer to http://www.cme.mq.edu.au

The Centre for Macquarie English (CME) (preferable for students studying at SIBT, Macquarie University)

Students are also required to pay an enrolment fee ($200) and social and recreational activities fee ($55)

Learn English at Macquarie City Campus

ACL Sydney English Centre is located in the same building as SIBT, Macquarie City Campus (Level 4 Wynyard Green). ACL has 20 years experience and offers a range of courses to prepare students for further study. For more information on ACL refer to www.acl.edu.au/sydney

ACL (preferable for students studying at SIBT, Macquarie City Campus)

Students are also required to pay an enrolment fee ($200) and materials fees ($132 - $215 depending on the length of the course).

SIBT can organise your English tuition through either CME or ACL. Complete the SIBT application form advising us of your current English level (e.g. provide IELTS, TOEFL score), where you would like to study, and we will coordinate your enrolment.

Other English language options

Students who are not required by the Australian Government to provide IELTS are able to sit a Navitas Placement Test. Please contact your SIBT representative or the SIBT Admissions team for further details.

SIBT also recognises courses from other English language institutions in Australia. Students should contact these institutions directly for further information.
